Despite the bad weather last Saturday, the wind, and the rain, and the cool temperatures, a warm time was had by all in the basement of Emmanuel United Church on rue Principale in Cowansville. Close to 70 people came to indulge in fresh strawberries and cake with a choice of whipped cream and ice cream. Also on hand was Blues Bette and Bob, and Jennifer A., and others who performed live music all afternoon long.
Close to 70 people came out for the Strawberry Social which has not been held for about fifteen years. Social events are coming back and it is heart- warming to see the support from the community for events held at the church.
The next event will be a Grand Yard Sale which will be on the church grounds on July 2. Anyone wishing to rent a table can leave a message on the church office phone at 450-263-0204.
When the weather is co-operative, Sunday morning services will be held outside on the church grounds. This was the case on the morning of the 19. Warm tea was served to the Congregation before the service started. It was a little cool outside, but the air warmed up by mid- service. A card was circulated to the Congregation to sign for Edie Holliday’s 98th birthday. Sitting in the Congregation was Margaret Marshall, who herself was celebrating a birthday on that very day.
After the service, a drumming circle met at 1 p.m. to jam on drums on the front lawn of the church. These intergenerational drum circles are held at various times throughout the year.
