On Tuesday classes began for the Eastern Townships School Board. The day was sunny and a perfect temperature for the first day of school.
At Heroes’ Memorial School in Cowansville there were some new students and some new staff and the building itself went under changes over the summer. Some new classrooms were formed and the gym ceiling was changed and raised. Even the doorframes on the outside doors facing the parking lot are being refurbished.
A few people seemed anxious, but most were full of smiles and were ready to start the new year. Principal Anne Stairs was out in the school yard to greet the children as they lined up with their teachers to enter the building. She, along with the staff, are hoping for a wonderful school year.
From Grade 1 up, masks will need to be worn in class and in the hallways. They are not needed outside or in gym class. Covid 19 is a reality but everyone is trying to make the start to the school year as normal as possible.
