Andrea Marcoux from Mansonville, along with her group of 22 peers, recently wrapped up their four-month action-based project as a part of the social services program at Dawson College. The project, titled FN Wellness, raised awareness around the issue of food insecurity faced by First Nations communities. Marcoux and her peers worked with three First Nations communities, the Waskaganish, the Kuujjuaq, and the Montreal Indigenous population, to provide various educational workshops to the public and Marcoux helped raise almost $4,000 to give back to three different organizations within the communities. While fundraising for the project is over, its educational impact continues and Marcoux hopes that FN Wellness will continue to reach a wider audience.
“Since we are 2021 graduates from Dawson College we had to do a social services project. We had to create a community action-based project to give back to the community. We got together as a group of 22 students and we had a research team, an events team, a public relations team, a fundraising team, and an IT committee team to make sure the project was successful.”
