The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Andrée Laforest, and MP for Brome-Missisquoi, Isabelle Charest, announced that the Place d’Orléans social and affordable housing project has been reserved as part of the AccèsLogis Québec program of the Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ) in the riding of Brome-Missisquoi.
This project will lead to the construction of 24 units in Cowansville for single people and people supported by the organizations involved in need of transitional housing.
“Our government’s housing efforts are bearing fruit in all regions of Quebec and ours is no exception. This is the result of the significant investments our government has made, but also of the perseverance of the l’Office d’habitation Brome-Missisquoi (OHBM), who initiated the Place d’ Orléans project which will benefit the people of Brome-Missisquoi in low or modest income or with special needs” said Charest.
To date, more than 6,500 social and affordable housing units have been built or are under construction as part of the government’s commitment to invest in more housing. There are also 236 units expected for women who are victims of violence announced last week and 1,500 housing units that will soon begin construction as part of the l’Initiative pour la création rapide de logements.
“The OHBM, Entrée chez soi, Espace vivant living room and the Center femmes des cantons are very pleased with this announcement,” stated Catherine Carré, Director of OHBM.
We will be able to develop an affordable housing project for our community. In the current context of housing shortages, this project is timely.”
